KODALY METHOD 2, THE (FOLKSONG TO MASTER

CHOKSY, LOIS
TEXT
The schools of Hungary have been producing musically literate amateurs and audiences as well as outstanding professional musicians for more than half a century. This phenomenon can be directly traced to the influence of one man, Hungarian composer, ethnomusicologist and educator, Zoltan Kodaly. Under Kodaly s leadership, schools in Hungary instituted music as a subject taught daily, given equal importance with mathematics, science and language. The goal of this education was universal musical literacy love of music supported by knowledge about music. The method that evolved to support this philosophy has since spread to the four corners of the earth. This volume and The Kodaly Method I: Comprehensive Music Education, Third Edition, are dedicated to the proposition that Kodaly s vision is worth and achievable and to the belief that it is both possible and imperative to bring the riches of music to all.
